Cutting Modera
As you build with Moderra, you may need to cut the Moderra concrete units and/or Trim Channels and H-Channels. You can use either a wet or a dry saw with diamond blades.
After cutting the concrete units, thoroughly wash them with water to remove any cement dust. The dust will cause staining if it is not removed.
Moderra 8" blocks are specifically designed with an Atmospheric Gasket on top of the unit. The Gasket allows the blocks to be cut at any length and still be used in conjuction with a Moderra Tie.
Utilizing 4" Blocks and 4" Corners
Moderra 4" blocks and 4" corner blocks should be used when your application height does not measure out in 8 inch increments. For the best results, make sure the 4" blocks and 4" corner blocks are installed in the same course in your Moderra wall. If the distance you are trying to make up is not a 4 inch increment, you may need to cut your Moderra units lengthwise. For details, see above CUTTING MODERRA.
Using Moderra Ties (optional)
When building a Moderra column out of cut units, you can use a Moderra Tie for added stability. This requires a regular Moderra block for the cut column. When installing the Moderra Tie, place the bent piece into the Atmospheric Gasket. Then attach the Moderra Tie to the wall. This will ensure the cut column does not experience movement.
Gluing the back of a cut unit to a Trim Channel will provide a strong connection. Therefore, use of the Moderra Tie is completely optional. |
