Aesthetics
Metal roofing is beautiful as well as durable and is available in a wide range of colors, styles and profiles.
Weather Resistance Metal roofing will withstand inclement weather - high winds, hail, snow and rain - better than any other roofing material. Metal systems have withstood winds up to 200 M.P.H. in tests, and have survived hurricanes and other windstorms when other materials have failed.
Life Expectancy
With proper installation and care, a quality metal roof should last for 50 years or more.
Strength Metal roofing does not warp, split, crack, or rot, and is impervious to termites and pests. The high strength steel (80 ksi min. yield) panel configuration and panel size of a typical metal roof add structural integrity to the roof system that is not provided by other roofing materials.
Fire Ratings Most metal roofing systems carry fire ratings that will reduce the homeowner's insurance rates. Check with your insurance company for reduced rates.
Maintenance
Metal is virtually maintenance-free and corrosion resistant. And, unlike shingles, metal won't curl, split, decay or mildew.
Installation Over Existing Roofs
Metal roofing can be installed over existing roofing materials, saving costly disposal and removal charges. Installation time is minimal and more cost-effective than traditional shingle installation.
Weight
Metal Roofs are durable yet lightweight for both new and re-roof applications. Structural savings can be realized when compared to some heavy weight roofing options. Asphalt shingles average 2 to 2.5 lbs. per square foot compared to steel roofing panels which weigh .7 to 1.3 pounds per square foot. Other roofing materials are heavier than asphalt shingles.
Environmentally Acceptable
Metal is made of recycled materials. If removed from the roof, metal can be recycled again versus dumped in a landfill. Metal roofing does not deplete the forests or oil reserves.
Recoatability
The color of pre-painted metal roofing can be changed to coordinate with new exterior color schemes. Repainting will also lenghen the overall life of the roof eliminating the cost of replacement or disposal. |
